Things-We-Believe-That-Aren't-True

With all the alternate facts floating around...

it seemed like a good time to talk about Things-We-Believe-That-Aren't-True.

We're going to start with your beliefs about creativity. Since Fia & I are both artists, we get asked about this at our workshops all the time. Things like:

  • Where do you get your ideas?
  • How do I get more creative?
  • Is the stuff I create any good?
  • You're so lucky you're creative (yeah. I know. That isn't a question. But we get it a lot, so I needed to put it somewhere.)

Here's all you need to know about creativity.

The truth is creativity is built into us, bone deep. We are creative all the time. One of the ways you're creative EVEN RIGHT NOW WHILE YOU'RE READING THIS is to make up what's going to happen next. A lot of us do it anxiously. Like what's-going-to-happen-next-I'll-bet-something-horrible-is-going-to-happen...

Being creative isn't the real question. The real question is how can you be creative in a way that makes you feel more alive? Turns out all it requires is practice. A practice of being present. A practice of being in your body. A practice of being curious about the possibilities instead of believing the thing you made up.

The story over on the right is another way to understand this relationship between creativity & your life. creativity. I call Fizzy With Light. Click on the image to see a bigger version of it...

Life is creative. When you're more present, you're more alive. When you're more alive, you're more creative. Simple as that...

Until next, with love, b

P.S. It IS simple. But it requires you starting a new practice. Which is something Fia & I do in our workshops all the time. (Fancy that!) We still have openings in our March workshops that will get you moving towards a practice to bring your own life back to life. The one in Taos is The Power of Story & Your Authentic Voice & the one in Portland is The Third Space: The Power of Story. (in both of them the power of story refers to the gap between the story you're living now & the story you're reaching towards. So, yeah, not your usual idea of story...:-))

Just so you know, there's a lot more we could say about the workshops. But let's do it this way instead: the short version is you'll leave knowing in the very heart of you that your whole life suddenly got bigger. The long version, well, the long version is the workshop. We'd love to have you join us...
